How to choose correctly

An ideal bed should consist of a quality mattress (the best latex, foam or sandwich) and a flexible bedframe. This combination best maintains the spine in its natural form. That is, while lying on the back in its physiological curved shape and while lying on the side in its linear shape.  The human spine is the support pillar of the entire body. It is composed of total of 24 vertebrae which allow a person to move and also protect the spinal cord. A person also needs intervertebral joints, ligaments, and discs to enable movement and walking. For these it is especially important to relax and replenish liquid necessary to maintain elasticity during the night.

Next to the mattress the bed frame is the most important part of bed. Quality bed frames consist of slats composed of several layers of wood glued together to ensure elasticity. The number of slats varies from type to type, however from the point of view of optimum load distribution the bed frame should have at least 28 slats. Flexible slats can respond to the load placed on particular areas of the bed and effectively keep the body in the correct position.

In addition to keeping the spine in the correct position for healthy and quality sleep, perfect breathability and moisture wicking properties of the bed are also very important because the skin should be kept in contact with clean air. That is why a bed frame with slats is much more suitable than a solid and non-breathable base.

Generally speaking the basic condition for a full and comfortable night's sleep is a combination of four factors which make up a quality bed:

  • High quality bed frame
  • High quality mattress
  • High quality, functional, nicely designed bed
  • High quality duvet and pillow
